In an effort to help you understand the value of the out of the box strategy quests, this document outlines what each strategy and its inherit missions mean for your community. The document includes perceived outcomes and suggestions on missions without knowing anything about specific use cases.

Jive Rewards strategy quest breakdown

Value - content is king

Strategy Mission and description

Events / What's involved?

Perceived Outcomes

Trendsetter

Make trendy content and go viral!

  • A file uploaded by you was downloaded
  • Your profile or content by you was viewed by someone:
  • Content you created was commented on
  • Your idea or poll was voted on
  • Content you created was shared:

People value your presence in the community. Content you created was shared or commented on meaning users care about what you have to say.

Your profile also receives hits as people are interested to learn more about you.

Influencer

Influence others with your contribution.

  • You were followed
  • Content you created was liked
  • Content you created was bookmarked
People care enough to like and/or bookmark your content, meaning it holds some value to them.

Innovation - moving things forward

Perceived Outcomes

Pollster

Gather insight and share your opinion.

  • Create a poll
  • Vote on a poll

Fairly straightforward - if your community has a use case that revolves/includes polling then activate this. Otherwise it may be a distraction from key activities if polling is not important from a strategic perspective (this does not mean polls are not important to individual community members)

Thinker

Think of new ideas and bring them up in the community.

  • Create an idea
  • Vote on an idea
See above but for ideas

Validator

Validate the contribution of others.

  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as a success
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as a decision
  • Mark a person's answer as correct
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as final
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as reserved
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as helpful
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as official
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as outdated
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply for action
Directly linked to your use of Strategic Outcomes. If you have these available for a mass audience then this is a good mission to measure activity and reward people.

Growth - sow the seeds of success

Perceived Outcomes

Leader

Get noticed by others for your impact

  • Create a piece of content: Blog Post
  • Content you created was commented on: Blog Post
  • Content you created was liked: Blog Post
  • Content you created was bookmarked: Blog Post
  • Content you created was shared: Blog Post
Blogstar. If blogging is important/a bonus/a use case then activate this to capture sentiment around your community's bloggers.

Collector

Notice other peoples contribution

  • Follow a person
  • View a person or piece of content

Slightly passive due to not knowing what steps a user would take after following and viewing. In communities where making connections is important this could work but perhaps less critical activities to track.

Sharer

Share information with people in the community.

  • Share a piece of content

Could work better as a one-off quest (as part of Onboarding perhaps) to teach them the functionality then move on.

Value could be to show volume of sharing around community if that matters to you.

Support - helping others in the community

Strategy Mission and description

Events / What's involved?

Perceived Outcomes

Correct

Provide the correct information for other people in the community.

  • Your answer was marked as correct

From a measurement perspective CM reports captures this but I like rewarding users as much as possible for this valuable action.

Reader

Read documentation and download files.

  • View a person or piece of content: Document
  • Download a file: Document

If there is a use case for pulling documents out of Jive then I would consider it, otherwise the events seem passive and of limited value.

Hard to know what a user does as a result of viewing or downloading documents.

Inquirer

Inquire for more information and seek new knowledge.

  • Create a piece of content: Discussion
  • View a person or piece of content: Discussion

CM reports can measure content creation and again, viewing a discussion is passive when there are so many more interesting things you can do. Use if really wanted.

Helper

Help others and share your knowledge with them.

  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as official
  • Your content was marked as helpful
  • Comment or reply to a piece of content
All 3 actions contribute to a vibrant community so employ this mission to reward users who follow best practices.

Engagement - bringing people together

Strategy Mission and description

Events / What's involved?

Perceived Outcomes

Reporter

Report the things that you find.

  • Mention a person, content or place: Document
  • Create a piece of content: Document

Super specific but if you have a use-case/community that is document-focused then this will reward users who work to your strategic objectives.

Connector

Connecting with others in the community.

  • Follow a person

Are streams an important part of your community? Could work better as a one-off event in the Onboarding quest.

The reason is that you can reward the user for the first event and be confident they understand the functionality. No need to reward a user 300 times for following someone.

Socializer

Get involved in the community.

  • Mention a person, content or place
  • Like a piece of content, a comment, or a reply

Could be activities that fit well inside on Onboarding quest but if you want to repeatedly reward users for these activities then turn it on.

Responder

Be responsive in the community.

  • Comment or reply to a piece of content:

This event is already in the Helper mission above so this event may work better as part of an Onboarding quest if you want to make use it again.

Knowledge - sharing and pairing

Strategy Mission and description

Perceived Outcomes

Author

Create new content to develop the community.

  • Add a tag to a piece of content
  • Create a piece of content
Use this. The mission rewards users for generating and tagging content, two sought-after community behaviours.

Creator

Manage contents in the community and determine their outcomes.

  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as a decision
  • Bookmark a piece of content
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as a success
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as outdated
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply for action
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as official
  • Update a piece of content
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as reserved
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as helpful
  • Mark a piece of content, comment or reply as final
Relies on the use and value of Structured Outcomes in your community. If you use them then use this mission, otherwise there's not much need.
